Film #1 – 1960-1962

Length: 35 minutes

Starts with the Johnstone house in North Vancouver and a cameo by Beryl on the front porch. This is followed by Fred Johnstone (apparently) painting the house and Max imitating his father. A good shot of Max riding his bike on the sidewalk.

It then moves into a visit by Rosemary, Joyce & Vince, Max can be seen setting up the scene, Rosemary on the phone and Beryl talking to the budgie. Fred joins in the fun.

Then – in colour – is the visit to Blewett just outside of Nelson and Rosemary and Jerry’s home. In this section you will see the farm, children (Joyce, Vince, Billy, Cheryl), farm animals, Jerry herding a single cow, Rosemary hauling pails and Lakeside Park – playing in the sand.

From there it’s off to Alberta to Aunt Tina’s (Christina Johnstone/Shackleton). The film is poor for this trip, but then we are back to the sights around Vancouver including Stanley Park and the Zoo. Here you’ll see John, Pauline, Billy, Cheryl and new baby Barb (1962).

A few shots of a road trip – maybe Horseshoe Bay – and then back to family pictures with John, Pauline, Billy, Cheryl, Fred and Beryl. Christmas (1960) and New Years party (bringing in 1961!).

Feel free to share your thoughts/memories in the comment section.

Things to Ponder … Who is the determined baby that just can’t get to that blue case because some adult keeps moving it out of range? and is that “Snowy” #1 at the New Year’s Party?
